Running of the Bulls, Encierro, a few hours to go

The opening celebration has been going on for quite a few hours already and will continue well into the morning hours. The first encierro, Running of the Bulls, is less than 11 hours away. Some may have gone off to bed to get a good nights rest, while others will party until just a few hours before. It is important to remember that safety is always a big concern in the encierro as it is a dangerous place. The rules strictly state that runners are not allowed to run drunk. Does it happen?...Sure it does, is it wise?...probably not. It helps to have your senses all in in top working order to avoid not only the bulls but also quickly respond to fellow runners who might fall in front of you.

Speaking from my own experience the running of the bulls can be both a run and a obstacle course as there are many who freeze who freeze when they spot the bulls and end up causing the collisions and pile-ups of runners as the domino effect takes place. With everyone running and looking backwards for the bulls most forget that the danger can also be right in front of them. Downed runners and collisions cause the majority of the injuries at the running of the bulls.

If you still have the urge to run, I would recommend going during a weekday as the number of runners can easily double on the weekends, making the running, avoiding, and dodging that much more difficult. It really is an incredible rush to partake in this event. Would I run again? I can honestly say Yes!! Yes, I would.

Running of the Bulls, Encierro 09 July 2007 Video
http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Monday09July2007

The latest Running of the Bulls video can be found at http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Monday09July2007

With the large weekend crowds dropping off there were quite a few less runners as usual. The run went without any major incidents and all the bulls stayed as a group all the way from start to finish. There were still typical injuries from runners colliding, tripping and falling, but not nearly to the extent of the much larger crowds the running draws on weekends. Latest reports of injuries was seven people.

Running of the Bulls, Encierro 10 July 2007 Video
http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Tuesday10July2007

Todays Running of the Bulls video can be found at http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Tuesday10July2007

Early reports talk of a couple of injuries, but it is not clear if anyone got gored at this point. There is talk of one possible gored and one trampled. I will update as more info becomes available.

Update: This running had four injuries that required hospital treatment but none from any goring. Overall the cleanest run so far this year, especially at a fast pace.

A second video has been added to show different views on the running.

Running of the Bulls, Encierro 11 July 2007 Video
http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Wednesday11July2007

Todays Running of the Bulls can be found at
http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Wednesday11July2007

This run went fast and had several injuries. Early reports look like one possible goring and a second person injured from the a bull as well. Several other injuries along the run as well.

Update: One Australian was gored in the thigh on Santo Domingo near the beginning of the run. Three others received injuries and also required hospitalization. One bull gets separated after tripping over several runners who tripped over each other. The bull creates some tense moments as he charges a few runners near Telefonica and the entrance to the bullring, pinning of person to the ground for a few seconds.

Running of the Bulls, Encierro 12 July 2007 Video
http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Thursday12July2007

Todays Running of the Bulls will be able to be viewed shortly at
http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Thursday12July2007

Several serious injuries and multiple people gored. Awaiting more reports to find out details and status of those injured and will update as more information becomes available. From seeing parts of the running via footage the some injuries looked severe. At least 4 ambulances were dispatched. Definitely not a good day for runners and a busy day for medic teams and hospitals.

Update: Seven gored and 6 other injured taken to hospitals in this running. Two of the gored are in very serious condition. So far talks are of this being the worst running for injuries.

Seven runners gored and 6 others injured and taken to hospitals in this running. Two of the gored are in very serious condition with one being what is being called grave danger from a horn to the upper torso. This is by far the worst Running of the Bulls for injuries so far this year.

Running of the Bulls, Encierro 14 July 2007 Video
http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Saturday14July2007

The video for today is at http://www.trip-central.com/?page=pages/Fiesta_de_San_Fermin_Pamplona2007/Saturday14July2007

First reports are of at least one possible goring. The bulls already left at the beginning of the run separated as two of the bulls were off to a late start. I will update more once I gather more information.

Update:One 21 year old runner from Barcelona was gored during this run. Two others were also taken to the hospital but not from goring related injuries. Overall a surprisingly clean run as a great ending to this years final running of the bulls during the Fiesta de San Fermin.

Feel free to post any questions or suggestions you have for next year or any other festivals that you find of interest to you. I am still working on gathering more information to post additional informational pages on the Fiesta de San Fermin.

If there is enough interest from visitors I will also post more videos of this years running of the bulls. Let me know if you want more.
